How did I discover microcredit?
For my public speaking I often watch many presentations, and several are on video, on the web. It’s a fantastic thing, it allows you to quickly discover extraordinary ideas wherever they are. I believe in it so much that today, in addition to public speaking, I also help those who want to speak on video.
In 2010, in one of these videos I discovered a project on microcredit. If you are not sure what it is here you can read more information. Its importance is enormous, and the Nobel Prize to Muhammad Yunus, one of the major actors, testifies it.
Returning to the aforementioned video, Jessica explained her project, Kiva and how, thanks to it, people like me can, in their small way, contribute to a better world by making micro-loans to those who really need it.
Ten years have passed since then and today I can speak from direct experience of the stories of those who are less fortunate than me, but thanks to this device they had opportunities to improve their conditions.
Stories have a great power to bring us closer to other people, but also to ideas.
Every loan I made has a person behind it, and her story.
Jessica’s story unveiled a world I wasn’t aware of.
My history with microcredit is my credibility when I present it to others, and I invite them to join in.
Stories have a tremendous power. Use it (wisely).
